My Project

I absolutely love my 8th-grade students’ curiosity, creativity, and determination. They are inquisitive learners who maintain a hydroponic lab, growing fresh produce right in our classroom. They build models, generate thoughtful questions, and highlight the legacies of diverse scientists through STEM projects. This year, they are tackling a challenging new curriculum and preparing for a high school-level Regents exam. Despite these challenges, they approach every task with a growth mindset and an eagerness to succeed.

However, our current seating is holding them back—literally.

The hard stools in our science lab have no backs, making it difficult for students to stay comfortable and focused during lessons, labs, and tests. Some students even fall off the stools or ask to sit on the floor or in low chairs that don’t fit at the lab tables. This discomfort disrupts their ability to fully engage with our hands-on activities and rigorous academic goals.

The chairs I am requesting will provide my 8th graders with much-needed support and comfort. With proper seating, they’ll be able to focus better on their work, whether they’re conducting experiments, building models, or taking exams. Comfortable chairs will also create a safer and more inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

My goal for this project is to ensure that every student feels supported—both physically and academically—so they can reach their full potential. My 8th-grade students are special because they work so hard to grow as learners and scientists despite these challenges. By providing them with supportive seating, I hope to remove one barrier to their success and give them the tools they need to excel in our science lab and beyond. Thank you for helping me back my amazing 8th graders!
