I have a very diverse group of students, where some students come from homes with monetary support, and where some students come from struggling homes with little to no support. As many teachers can attest to, I also have the whole gamut of learning styles in my students, so I like to incorporate as much movement in my learning activities as possible. My goal is to do activities in my classroom that support all socio-economic groups as well as a variety of learning styles.
My students are full of curiosity and excitement for learning.
They love taking on new projects and concepts as they explore writing and reading. They especially love kinesthetic activities where they can move and manipulate items to make connections. They also love reading both fiction and nonfiction books to help expand their learning of the world beyond their little corner.
My Project
Reading is a foundation and a life skill that will contribute to every other activity and experience children have outside of the classroom. By donating to our project, you will help students improve their background knowledge, empathy, and many other life skills, all of which languished during the pandemic school shut-downs.
I will use these high-interest nonfiction books to teach my students about the world outside not only the physical classroom, but outside their world of digital streaming and learning.
By building background knowledge through nonfiction, it helps build word knowledge, fluency, and conversation skills. Nonfiction books also have universal themes and motifs that students can connect to their own lives, fictional literature, and multimedia (world) while learning about other people and time periods.
