I teach in a small, rural school with a student population of fewer than 450 for all of K-12. We have a very high percentage of families who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch which also qualifies us as a Title I school.
With a $200 annual classroom budget, I can buy some things such as construction paper, writing paper, tape, paint, markers, and such to start the year.
I then rely on writing grants to keep my classroom materials fun and engaging.
My students are 5- and 6-year-olds who absolutely loves school, and I feel it is my job to make sure that excitement continues to grow throughout their kindergarten year. When I am told by parents that their child is sad that they have to miss a day of school, I secretly grin from ear to ear. I want my students to beg for more time at school, and I plan to continue finding new ways to do my best to make that happen.
My Project
As a Kindergarten teacher, I am very excited about implementing a brand new Phonics Program using Secret Stories and Elevate Phonics! I have done some training over the Summer, and I am all ready to go...except for a few basic supplies. I have a $200 classroom budget, and it has already been assigned to some other basic everyday supplies, so what is this girl going to do? I will write this grant and share some of the last-minute items that I could really use some help in purchasing.
I would love to be able to provide my students with dry erase lap boards along with large chart paper for the children to record and display their learning around the classroom.
Having post it chart paper will allow us to immediately hang up ABC Boot Camp anchor charts and add more information and pictures as we make new connections.
