Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is Title I and is located in a predominately Hispanic area. My students are faced with many obstacles both in and out of the classroom. Despite all the obstacles they face, their parents are very supportive and willing to help make a change.

My students thoroughly love to come to school!

They are eager to get their hands on their next learning adventure. They are willing and able to try just about anything related to their learning. They love to discuss things that they learn about and the books that they read with us during the morning meeting. More importantly, my students want to be loved and to belong. My goal is to show them that they matter in a world this big and that they are destined for greatness.

My Project

Even though I try really hard to make the pencils in my classroom last, I still find myself with a pencil shortage every year. We are at the start of the year and if you could believe it, we are already low on pencils. I plan to tackle the age-old disappearing pencils problem that has been vexing my classroom by using the toothbrush holder cases to hold 5 pencils at a time and refill them monthly with a reward system in place. I also plan to use the velcro dots to make a pencil borrowing station in the event a pencil is misplaced. The post its are used daily in writers and readers workshop and are also used to give feedback to students. Bright colored papers will be used for copies and worksheets because I find that the students are more drawn and excited to work on bright colored papers. Students need dry erase clipboards for math centered mini-lessons. They can multi-task by both problem-solving and holding worksheets.
