Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being at our school for several years, I have gotten the chance to really get to know many of the students in the school, including those I have never taught. Many of them have gone through seriously adverse situations and misfortunes that impact their everyday life, especially their education. I am amazed at how resilient they can be, and how they push through to the best of their abilities regardless of hardships that affect them. Being a fifth-grade teacher has shown me how fast some students have to mature. I have taught their younger siblings in previous years (coming up from kindergarten and first grade) and see how they take care of their family. Each child that I have gotten to know at this school has my heart.

I want nothing but the best for all of these students, and that includes giving them hands-on experiences that will be memorable to them.

My students need to be able to feel like school isn't another one of their draining duties or work. I want ALL of them to enjoy school and look forward to each day in my class.

My Project

Each year parents, and students, stress over the infamous school supply list. As the years' pass, the lists get longer and more complex. I want to be able to combat the possibility of a student coming in on the first day feeling unprepared because they couldn't afford to pick up dry erase markers or tissues. It's important to me to be able to provide at least some of the supplies we will be using everyday. I am the one asking for them!

No child should ever start the school year off feeling like they can't be successful because they only brought in one folder or notebook.

Having extra pencils, scissors, and glue sticks will allow me to be prepared to help any student succeed without the excuse of not having something to complete a task. It's a part of being a teacher.
