Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach high school kids from all around New York City. They come from different boroughs and neighborhoods all trying to get away from violent gangs and trying to focus on their education. They are a great group of kids who are always looking for ways to learn new things about technology. They come to the classroom filled with interest and creative minds. More than a positive attitude and thirst for learning, these kids come to my classroom with empty stomachs and excessive troubles brought about by homelessness and other social issues from their communities. They often ask if I have food, water, and other household items to give them because they are feeling hungry, have not had a decent meal, or need products to keep themselves hygienic. More than their basic needs, I have noticed that they lack basic school supplies and organizational materials. For this reason I’ve decided to set a project that will hopefully give them the tools to start the school year with great success.

My Project

This project will provide my students very much needed back to school supplies such as pens, pencils, highlighters, rulers, protractor, pencil sharpener, erasers, calculators, graph paper, folders, binders, notebooks, organizing folders, filler paper, art sketch book, staplers, glue, dividers, mechanical pencils that will help set them up for a successful start of the school year. They will have materials that will enable them to fully participate in classroom activities that require writing essays, planning the blue print of their projects, sketching their art work, and organizing their portfolios. Giving the students classroom materials will help them be more confident and engaged in the lessons.
