This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The start of a new school year is exciting for both students and teachers. This year I will go back to teaching first grade again! Please help us begin on a positive note by providing materials that will last us the whole year!

I teach in a high-need public school in NY.

My students are bright and curious, but often lack the materials sufficient for learning. Because I work with young children, they also tend to learn best using a combination of sight, sound and touch. Materials geared towards these needs are especially hard to come by in our setting.

My Project

With paper and a book-binding machine, my students will be inspired to create their own books. Listening centers will allow them to listen to books on Cd and participate in literacy activities in small groups. Interactive non-fiction books will help increase vocabulary and scientific knowledge. Play dough and letter forming cards will help my struggling students develop essential reading and writing skills. Book bins and book pouches will help keep our library books clean so that all of my students can enjoy them for a long time.

With your support, my students will have not only the basic materials necessary for learning, but resources that make learning fun!

They will experience the excitement of creating their first books, listening to classic children's literature, playing literacy games and much more!
