This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a teacher, I am astounded by the accomplishments the students I work with make, regardless of the adversity they must overcome.

As much as they would like to, many of my students cannot afford basic supplies, such as dry erase markers, index cards to make flashcards, and even pencils.

These classroom materials will help them to succeed in sixth grade and beyond by giving them access to the materials they need. Items such as highlighters aid in place value identification in multi-digit operations. They need flashcards for fluency practice, plastic sheets for their math tool kits, and folders to keep their work organized. And of course what class can survive without pencils and erasers?

This year, I am stepping into a new role as the sixth grade math teacher, and I want to ensure that the students I work with will have the basic tools they need to access the curriculum.
