Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

There are many times in a day when students may "act out" and one of the reasons may be as simple as that they are hungry. In order to curb some of these behaviors, I like to offer my students a snack. Students are only permitted to eat one "meal" at each designated time in a day (breakfast and lunch) - for a total of two meals per day when at school. Snacks help them throughout the day - whether they are hungry before or after lunch. Some snacks can be sent home with students if they express hunger needs at the end of the school day. Snacks are also offered as an incentive to continue reading books and stories to friends and family outside of the school day.

Help me give students access to snacks as rewards and to curb food anxiety during the school day!

Food can also be used as a learning tool. For example, eating snacks can teach a child about subtraction. Hands-on learning is very effective for the students in grades K, 1, and 2, and I would love to be able to give them these opportunities.
