My Students

My students are smart, curious, creative, funny, hardworking, and friendly towards one another. My personal class consists of 20 students that represent families all over the world, as well as a variety of learning levels. My school has seventeen first-grade classrooms and my K-2 school consists of over 1,000 students of diverse backgrounds. This can make teaching challenging because of the diverse learning abilities, but my students are always eager to learn. My students continually face obstacles head-on and continually strive to do better. Their drive and passion for learning are amazing!

My Project

Each year my first graders create a portfolio to track their progress throughout the year. I would like to have a picture printer in the classroom to go with their portfolio. Parents love to come in at the end of the year and view their child's portfolio. Portfolios consist of different reading, writing, science, social studies, and math activities we have completed during the school year. We begin in August and parents come into the classroom for an open house event in May to view them. A picture printer would allow students to add pictures and creativity to their portfolios. A picture printer would also be nice for special events so students can take their picture home to share with their families.

Sensory fidgets will help keep students engaged and improve focus.

I plan to use these tools to help students who need reminders to stay focused, but also plan to use them to decode words with all children in the classroom. Students will pop how many sounds they hear in a word as we decode words. This will be beneficial in keeping students attention as well as helping to improve their decoding skills with meaningful learning experiences.

Math tools help with number sense in first grade. Dice poppers, cards, and hundreds chart will make math fun for those struggling students. I have also included storage items to keep everything organized.
