My Students

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about my project! I am the special education teacher in the 3rd grade Integrated Co-Teaching Class at my school. We have a full-time general education teacher in addition to myself in class all day to meet the needs of our very diversified class. For the 2021-2022 school year, we have 25 students in our class plus one paraprofessional.

Our students are curious, hard-working and excited learners.

We have a class full of superstars! The students that will be in our class this year are helpful, caring and understanding. These students have had a tough year and half with COVID restrictions. Half of them have been learning at home since March of 2020, and the other half have spent part of that time in school anywhere from 2-5 days per week. This year, the plan is to have them all in-person everyday. It will be quite the adjustment. These students deserve all the best!

My Project

About half of the students in our class have not been in school since March 2020. Our supplies have been depleted! We need all new materials to keep us up to speed so we can do our best work!

Since the pandemic began, the way we teach and learn has changed!

The 3rd graders will continue to do much of their work online and need an organized space in the classroom to charge and house their laptop computers which they will utilize during writers workshop, readers workshop, math and social studies. The students will be able to better communicate their needs with their teachers using the requested flip charts. The flip charts are especially helping during the drafting process in writing so they can notify the teachers that they are ready to have their work checked so they can move on to the next step. The reward punch cards will be a nice addition to the daily routine. Since we are focusing on social and emotional learning this school year, it’s important that the students are recognized for positive behaviors.

We have also used up the daily supplies that teachers keep on hand. As educators we are aware of the high cost of school supplies and how difficult it can be to pay for supplies, especially when you have more than one child. DonorsChoose will help use to get the items, materials and supplies we need to run an effective classroom without putting the burden on our families that have struggled so much during this difficult time.
