This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 5th Grade Special Education teacher in a public elementary school in the South Bronx, where 97% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and 30% of our students live in temporary housing.

For most of our students, this will be their first time in the school building since the COVID-19 school closure in Spring 2020.

My class consists of (2) sections of 31 amazing students who are inquirers, compassionate, and have a great love for learning! As graduating 5th Graders, my students are enthusiastic to return back to the building, so that they can engage in an enriched learning experience and prepare for middle school.

My Project

This project supports learning supplies for the 62 students in the 5th grade class. For their own safety and to minimize contact among students, students will receive their own set of individual supplies. This includes supplies such as pencils, highlighters, individual white boards, and PPE equipment. It also includes utility carts for the 5th grade teachers to efficiently move materials for our students between the two class sections as we teach our specialized content area.

During COVID-19, my students' neighborhood has been one of hardest-hit zip codes in NYC, and it continues to be heavily impacted.

As a result, our families are facing economic hardship and are unable to provide the learning materials that their child needs for the upcoming school year. By donating to this project, you are giving my students an opportunity to continue their love of learning and start the new school year on a strong note. It will truly touch their hearts to know that they are supported and loved by so many.
