My Students

We are a rural community in Southern Idaho in one of the lowest funded districts in the state. Many of my students live on farms or help out on farms. We have the maximum allowed number of students in each classroom and are rapidly growing. Our community has very little industry or large business to enhance our tax base for levies/bonds. Our district relies on homeowners to fund through taxes.

We are a 6-8 school with two special education departments, one being Extended Resource.

Many of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. We also have a population of students experiencing a situation where they are temporarily homeless. We use local resources to support this population of students that vary year to year.

My Project

I am the National Junior Honor Society Advisor at our middle school. Through this grant, our honor society students will fulfill a local need and perform community service. They will create back to school clothing and snack kits that will be distributed to our students classified as homeless as according to national criteria. Homeless does not mean living in a car. It is any student who is in temporary housing. Most of these students can not afford new socks, t-shirts,healthy snacks, or hygiene items to get them through the first week of school. With these supplies we will create 24 kits to he distributed. Please help our honor society with this important community service project.
