Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach deaf and hard-of-hearing students, students with learning disabilities, and English Language Learners in a high-poverty, Title I school. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch everyday. They face many challenges in their lives, including learning the basics of reading, writing, and math.

My students have a lot to overcome, but they are rising to the challenge.

Once my students realize they can learn, their learning takes off and the possibilities are endless! As a teacher it is so rewarding to see students who once thought they can't, now realize they can, and it is my joy to guide them towards that realization.

My Project

Most of my students come from low-income families, and while some are able to bring supplies on the first day of school, these supplies are brought to their general education classroom. This often leaves our special education classroom lacking in some of the basic school supplies like kleenex and pencils. This project will stock our classroom with everything we need to be up and running for a successful school year. Basic classroom essentials like paper, pencils (and a pencil sharpener), dry erase markers (and cleaner), sticky notes, tape, and glue will ensure successful writing and other projects. Ink for our printer will allow students to show off their digital work; magnets will allow us to display it. Kleenex, soap, hand sanitizer, lysol wipes, and paper towels will keep our classroom safe and clean.
