This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a self contained class with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students in the South Bronx. My students have been working very hard throughout the years. I have had this group for two years and most went from a level B reading level to Level I. I feel confident that they can do all things when they put their minds to it. My group is a very sweet group they each have the biggest personalities that can light up any room. In our class we have Individual reading, phonics and math stations that is specific to each and every students needs and abilities . This allows for them to work at there own pace independently, or with a partner or with myself. My school is able to provide us with the basic supplies at the start of the school year. I mostly make or buy what they need to keep the stations going all year long. It is my wish that we have more stations and supplies that will keep their interest to keep them engaged in the classroom and at home so the students can visually see their amazing progress.

My Project

This year due to the COVID-19 pandemic my schools budget is very low. This means that giving students adequate personal learning supplies will not be possible. I work in the poorest school district in NYC. These families are in dire straits especially during these times. The lack of a school budget to accommodate my room with adequate supplies will not be possible. The families we service are not able to afford supplies and food for their families. We are trying our best to work with what we have it’s hard when the you items you need that are essential to help them get a good solid education are not available. We have so many things lacking these items, crayons, glue, pencils, colored pencils, and more, can help us give them that push they need. Any help and support is needed. The children need these items desperately. We need as much as we can to create a creative hands on learning environment. These children not only have challenges educational they also have challenges financially. Thank you in advance.
