My Students

Welcome to “The World of Extraordinary Learners!” As a Title I first/second-grade self-contained classroom of 12, we may be small in number, but MIGHTY in learning, personality, and presence! My students are readers, writers, explorers, inquirers, and creative individuals with unique needs. In my classroom, the dis/abilities present include speech and language, ADHD, and learning disabilities. All of my students are from Hispanic and/or Black/brown backgrounds and many of my students come from single-family homes, non-English speaking parents, and low socioeconomic status (all contributing factors that cause disparities within the education system).

Despite the hardships my students face outside of the classroom, they remain positive and enthusiastic learners who are excited to come into school and learn each and every day.

The work we do in this classroom includes building relationships, creating a welcoming environment, and accessing the general education curriculum through differentiation and developmentally appropriate practice. This is not only our classroom, but our second home, our safe place, and refuge. We celebrate our tribulations. We celebrate our successes. And most importantly, we celebrate each other.

My Project

After 1.5 years of remote and hybrid learning, this school year we are going back into our classroom full-time! It goes without saying there many families who have experienced hardships since the start of the pandemic. Hence, providing their child with necessary school supplies may not come easily.

Basic school supplies should not be a privilege, but a right all students have access to.

The materials requested for this project such as glue sticks, pencils, erasers and scissors will provide students with the school supplies necessary to succeed in school. Laminating pouches and sheet protectors will provide students with long-lasting center materials which help support student engagement and academic success.
