My Students

I am the 2nd grade Math teacher of approximately 60 elementary-aged children at a small school in Houston, Texas. Of the 420 PreK 3 - 5th-grade students at our Title I campus, 100% are eligible for free breakfast and free lunch. 89% of my students have been labeled as economically disadvantaged and 10% of my students are part of the Backpack Buddy program which sends meals homes with the students each weekend.

Although my students are in unfortunate circumstances, they are worth so much more than the labels that have been attached to them.

My students come through my door every day ready to grow and willing to learn. They are hopeful for their futures but need the tools to make their dreams come true.

My Project

This school year has gotten off to a great start and there is a lot of learning going on in our classroom. From learning how to represent numbers in a variety of ways, to learning how to add and subtracts and read word problems, my students are absorbing all of the knowledge that they can to become productive members of society. With your help, my students will be able to continue their learning once we've obtained additional supplies, such as markers, pencils, and erasers, that we are currently running low on.

A lot of our learning requires the students to be hands-on and writing, and these materials will allow them to continue to reach for success.

We use dry erase boards to show what we know. We use pencils and erasers to transfer our hands-on learning into abstract concepts. We laminate our resources so they can be reused again and again throughout the school year. My students who an overwhelming interest in learning and I want to make sure that they have what they need to keep that energy going!
