This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All children deserve to have classrooms with clean, basic materials. Unfortunately, because our school lacked a cafeteria, my students ate at their desks and the classroom became plagued by cockroaches and mice. We are moving to a new building now, and need to replace our rug and book bins.

I teach first grade at a public school in a high-poverty area.

The students, teachers, staff and parents at my school have worked very hard to make the best of a challenging environment. For many years, our school had been housed in a dilapidated building that lacked a gym, auditorium or library. I worked in an annex building in which there was not even a cafeteria. Now we are moving to a new building with all of those facilities, but with severe budget cuts, there is no money left for even the most basic of supplies. After several years of use, my carpet is stained from those occasional early childhood mishaps, my book bins are cracked, and both are soiled by mouse and insect droppings.

My Project

My students need and deserve to have a new, clean carpet and book bins. With a colorful carpet marked with 30 squares, my 27 new students will each have a place to sit comfortably. The carpet is also soil-resistant and comes with a 10-year guarantee! The book bins are colorful, very sturdy and easy to clean. My students will be able to select books from bins without having to wipe them off first, and read them on a clean, comfortable carpet.

No child should have to sit on a filthy rug or read stained books. With your help, my students can have a brand new, clean classroom environment.
