Ms. Hargrove from Saint Louis, MO is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
See what Ms. Hargrove is requestingMy students need a class equipped with basic back to school materials to start the year off right. Paper, pens and markers are always in high demand but never supplied.

Imagine walking into class the first day of school, you're new, you don't know anyone and your super nervous. Now imagine the teacher says take out your materials but you don't have any because your mom couldn't afford it. Panic sets in and your pulse starts to race. What will you do?
My smart, eager students face this problem on a daily basis.
They come from single family homes where their parent is barely able to buy school uniforms for the start of the year, not to mention school supplies. This shouldn't be a problem because the schools will have those items, right? Wrong, we are a poor urban school that barely balanced the budget and have no money for basic supplies. 98% of our students receive free/reduced lunch because of their economic status and will come to school hungry, tired, and with no supplies to learn. It's a stressor they don't need or deserve.
I want to level the playing field and have a classroom fully stocked and prepared for learning. My kids have a lot of worries but supplies should not be one of them. They should be able to do projects with markers and paper. They should have their own copies of worksheets, tests and notes without having to share or copy them from the board. They should have pens to take notes and write down the results of their math investigations. My students are deserving young mathematicians in the making who need support to develop their inquisitive minds.
When we receive donations from the community my students and I are in awe and feel part of a caring environment.
By helping us with basic supplies you will not only remove a barrier to their education but teach them a lesson about paying it forward. Character education is just as important as the mathematics they learn; you become a huge inspiration. Now imagine the teacher notices that you don't have your supplies and discretely passes them to you. What a wonderful way to start the school year!
