Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school has 5th graders unable to read. It all starts in the primary grades with a solid foundation in letters, sounds, and words. They are saying I type more but to me it is simple - we need to teach children how to read first. I love science & especially the arts but reading is fundamental.

The inner city is a tough place to teach but an even tougher place for students to learn.

Parent's are busy working and that leaves students on their own. They more my students can get in school, the better off they are. It is a hard fact as a teacher to learn that some parents can only do so much, so that mean as a teacher, i have to do more.

My Project

A Listening Center is a place set up in the room where students can work independently. I do teach, but to a small group. After about 20 minutes the student rotate and I teach to the next group while others visit the Listening Center and other centers in the room. It is a way to "differentiate" instruction - that is, a way to help students based on their level in a certain area, like reading. It is a fun way for students to learn and get the instruction they need.

BACK TO BASICS - students must learn to read.

Reading is the foundation of a life long learner! Ahh, more typing again they say but what more can I say.... please, please, please.
