My Students

I teach in a school district with students from various backgrounds, including low income, special needs and English language learners. Many students receive free lunch and are faced with various challenges in school and in the communities they live in. Despite these challenges, my students come to school every day, on time, and ready to learn.

My students bring a lot of energy and excitement to school, along with the strong desire to learn to read, write, and speak better.

They love to learn through various modalities such as music, movement, technology, and art. When we use music videos to learn our sight words, or skills needed to blend words, I see their eyes light up. They are fully engaged and motivated in learning. I need to utilize various tools and methods that will continue to put that sparkle in their eyes. I want to help my students to be successful and become lifelong learners.

My Project

Naturally, children love to write whether it's their very first experience by scribbles, or learning how to write their name. These materials will motivate my students to develop a love of writing. My students will enjoy listening to stories to help them learn and understand grammar, which they will be able to apply in their writing. Just having basic writing tools may seem to some students as just boring, but when we give students markers and motivate them with stickers, it makes writing a little bit more enjoyable.

Writing is a basic skill that has turned into incomplete sentences and improper punctuation and grammar thanks to "texting."

Instilling a love for writing, at an early age, is vital to develop college and career ready writers. These materials will help me to engage my young writers in a way that will stay with them as they grow and develop into young men and women.
