My Students

Our school motto is "Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader." We strive to teach all of our students that their voice makes a difference in our world. What our students learn today will stay with them throughout their lives. Kindergarten is the foundation of all learning.

My K-5th grade Title I public school is in a rural area located a few miles from the beautiful coast of North Carolina.

We serve many English as a second language students and have a diverse group of learners. As in most rural communities, jobs are scarce and money is tight. With statewide district cuts, we must make the most of our supplies. My Kindergarten students work hard and take care of our classroom supplies. They read, write, draw, cut, and paste daily to apply what they have learned.

My Project

I am requesting crayons, scissors, glue sticks, and pencils for my kindergarten students. My class uses journals and composition books to draw, label, and write about their learning. We read a book weekly, then discuss the characters, the problem/solution, the beginning, middle, and end in our fiction books. In our non-fiction books, students use graphic organizers to fill in information they have learned. Most of my students are just learning to sound out words so drawing is very important to them. Kindergartners draw with many colors because the details they apply to their drawings will later become details in their writing. Our class uses glue sticks and scissors daily in their interactive journals. They need to glue and cut daily to help develop their fine motor skills so writing will be an easier task. Kindergarten students also need pencils to write with. My students have one pencil in their pencil boxes and rotate that pencil with a new one when it needs sharpening.

Your donation to our class will help my students do their work without worrying about not having the right supplies.

Basic supplies such as the ones I have requested should be available for all students in our great country. You will make such a difference in my students' Kindergarten year by providing them with the means to learn and grow academically. Thank you so much for considering helping my students with their basic educational needs.
