My Students

I teach an Autistic Support classroom, made up of 8 students and two paraprofessionals. My students have a lot of academic and behavioral needs. We will be learning virtually to start the school year, which is not ideal for my particular students. Each student is at a different instructional level, which makes it challenging. I intend to get my students the materials they need in order to have the best chance at growth at the beginning of this school year. With the diverse needs in my classroom, it's important to always have new materials and manipulatives to meet the students' individual academic, behavioral, and sensory needs. Individual work allows my students the opportunity for the most growth academically. Virtual learning will allow us all to feel connected, but they will need critical supplies for home learning. My students are mostly low socioeconomic populations with limited means on their own. Some of these materials will help by separating the tasks the students will complete at different levels to address their social, life skills, and academic needs. Laminating will help our classroom get a lot of use out of the materials printed. Thanks in advance for considering my students!

My Project

All of my students still do not have access to technology and I intend to get them printed materials so they can join the class even remotely. Hopefully, we'll all be back in a brick and mortar building soon, but during virtual learning, they will need supplies and work to keep their motivation strong and an opportunity to grow academically while at home. My students work on basic skills and need the opportunity to write on paper, not just use the computer. Having sensory needs, they'll need resources like weighted blankets to help with focus and calm. They also work on life skills, needing to identify grocery items, map locations, road signs and signals, practicing counting money, telling time, and reading basic sight words. These materials can be provided to the families using the printer and dry erase and laminating items to they can reuse and practice multiple times at home. Many of my families have nothing as far as resources to help teach their children. This project will help students feel as if this like being in the classroom; the work will be familiar to them.
