Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are so moved by the continued support that the Donors Choose community gives us. The generosity of others inspires us daily and we are truly blessed.

My students live in a high poverty and high crime neighborhood in Philadelphia.

The basic needs we take for granted are not being met on a daily basis. As if this struggle was not enough to deal with, they are exposed to the reality of crime and drug use that haunts their neighborhood.

Despite all of the adversity, my students want to succeed and to compete on a level playing field with their peers. The needs are great but they are willing to work hard.

My Project

Can you imagine starting the year without the supplies you need?

These resources will be used during Readers and Writer's Workshop.

Students will use the white boards for guided writing and the clip boards for independent writing. Each student will have a writing portfolio to draw from for published pieces so we will use the file folders to stay organized. The pencils and pencil sharpener are essential tools to keep us writing.

My students explore reading and writing together and I am fostering their love for both.

We are a room of readers and authors and have many stories to tell. This project will help us to reach our goals and see our progress as writers.
