My Students

My students are L.E.A.D.E.R.S. in which they do the following:

[L]earn new things every day

[E]very one works as a team

[A]lways prepared for class

[D]oes their very best

[E]ncourages and helps one another

[R]espectful to others

[S]hows responsibility

They came up with this mission statement in the beginning of the year and are model students who follow this every day. Majority of my students attend school beyond the 8am-3pm schedule, as their parents work long hours trying to provide for a better future for their child. Nearly all of my students come from immigrant families, and it is their teachers whom they see the longest, and their classroom where they find the most comfort in.

My Project

The majority of our students' day consists of focusing primarily on the academics, whether its from 1st grade to the upper grades. After nearly a decade teaching the upper grades, I am now teaching early childhood and I see, being in a Title I school, that materials and resources are limited. The families of my students provide as best as they can for their child(ren); however, supplies fall short (especially art supplies) and this hinders their educational experience.

Art materials were primarily included in this project as this would provide a creative and well-rounded school experience for the kids--in addition, materials will improve their fine motor skills and expand on their imagination and creativity.

Students would be more excited and motivated if they had something to look forward to, especially if it involved something other than strictly academic work.
