My students need 10 copies of the elements and principles of design books, and a set of the posters, as they submit design portfolios at the end of the year.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our art department is growing! We had to hire three additional art teachers in the last two years because of growth, not turnover. Our district has been pushing AP development across the board in an effort to keep our high achieving students and families in the district. We have many students whose family members have not been to college, and if they attend, they would be the first. We have a lot of potential, but are often short of cash.
This year we have a CRISIS. The state of Illinois has not been paying anything to the schools. The state owes our district 3.7 million, and no payment is in sight. Basic supplies, and their funds, are quickly drying up.
In a school of 3400 kids, we have one classroom set of these books. We cannot spend money on another set (for the other end of the building) for the Advanced placement kids, when we can suddenly not afford supplies.
My students use these books to check their design chops against the elements & Principles- Are they all covered? Do they even remember them from Freshman year? I have taken turns with other teachers, but for these students to prepare top notch portfolios and earn college credit, they should be checking their work everyday- we need our own reference copies! I have 18 students in the class, but a set of 10 and the wall posters will suffice.
Reinforce the importance of checking your work- this purchase will make a very direct impact on whether or not these kids earn FREE college credit, and will also reinforce the idea that they can handle college level art & design and pursue their dreams.
