My Students

My students are enthusiastic, creative, willing, and are excited about the performing arts. They thrive in the performing arts classroom and are at their most joyous when performing live for an audience of their peers, teachers, family and friends.

These young people with multiple disabilities just love to showcase their talents and have their voices heard in such unique and fun ways.

The true sense of pride and accomplishment is palpable when my students take their much deserved 'bow'.

My Project

Covid 19 has taken away many things, and for two years now, it has taken away our ability to provide live performances. Prior to the pandemic, our arts department rigorously produced five fully staged shows/concerts annually.

The arts play a huge part in our student's programming as we believe arts instruction is paramount to enable young people with developmental disabilities to acquire life skills that not only transcends the arts classroom, but also prepares them to live and work in our community as independently as possible.

These lost performance opportunities has had significant effects on our school community including deficits in peer-to-peer interactions, parent and family engagement, vocational training opportunities (i.e. ushering, concessions, merchandise), and overall school spirit to name a few.

Our goal is to move our performances outside to our oversized school yard. With the stage unit platforms and the open air we can bring our beloved performances back to our school community safely!
