Why are we going? To have a better image of what happened during the Holocaust. The Museum of Tolerance is the perfect place to remember all who died, and this learning experience is within our reach. "To forget those who died would be to kill them a second time," Elie Wiesel.
We are 9-12 graders who have faced tough times early in life and utilize individualized education to help us succeed.
Some of us choose our school so that we can work at our own pace and graduate early from high school. We're driven. Some of us are 18 and are not required by law to go to school, but we see value in earning a diploma and will work hard to get it.
The mission of our school is to engage students who are no longer a part of the traditional high school setting. The approximately 2,000 students at our school work to develop personalized learning plans that enable us to move toward graduation. We work to master basic skills utilizing technology and develop an interest in lifelong learning. Our school is continuously developing new programs that support this mission statement--and this field trip will be a big part of our English workshop course. In fact, we are writing this proposal as a class project for real-life writing experience.
My Project
Author Elie Wiesel once said, "I write to understand as much as to be understood." Well, we have been studying Elie Wiesel's "Night" and hope to understand him better by touring the Museum of Tolerance. In remembrance of all the Jewish people who died in the 30s and 40s, purged as the third Reich spread and consumed all that apposed them, we study these important events in history. We take a trip to The Museum of Tolerance to remember those good people who were slain as Hitler's iron fist consumed everything it touched. We hope to connect the history to our own lives today and our future lives.
We will engage in interactive, high-tech exhibits that expose the dynamics of prejudice and discrimination historically and today. We will witness history as we journey through the Holocaust exhibit and receive a photo passport card of a child whose life was changed by the Holocaust. We will learn from the past, engage in the present, and assume responsibility for the future.
The memory will last a lifetime.
In the writing style of Elie Wiesel: Never shall we forget the history. Never shall we forget the literature. Never shall we forget the images. Never shall we forget the pain and suffering. Never shall we forget the humanity.
