Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are motivated, inspired, and interested in the arts! They need more resources to explore the rich art and culture of their vibrant community. My students are high school students in East Los Angeles, a Latino working class community.

My Project

My students are in need of performing arts classes that honor their cultural backgrounds and enhance their overall experience with school. Students in my class learn native Mexican dances and drum beats, as well as the history of indigenous peoples in Mexico and Latin America. Practicing the dances, songs, and learning the stories are an unforgettable experience. Help them acquire the regalia and instruments needed so that they can perform for an audience and exhibit their learning. East Los Angeles is rich in terms of culture and language, but our students have few opportunities at school to explore the arts. These instruments will be used by my students for many years to come.
