My Students

The absence of vital teaching equipment in the classroom is like going on a long road trip, without any gas.

My students are from lower income neighborhoods in inner city New York, and most are Caribbean immigrants who are receiving an American education for the first time.

My classroom is truly international. Each day I must translate my lessons into Spanish, French, and Creole so that my "Caribbean Students" can have the same opportunity to a quality education as my English speaking students. Although Google Translate is not perfect, my international student are very appreciative for my effort.

My Project

Although there is a small computer classroom in my school, having these four laptops in my classroom will allow students who may have been working at a slow pace a chance to catch up to the average student. These laptops will also allow the co-teacher to pull the international students to the back of the classroom where they can receive special instruction tailored to their specific needs, such as instant translations, visual examples, and practice problems.

These four laptops will allow all my students the opportunity to increase their understanding of the complex topics and concepts that I teach in my classroom.

What is the purpose of having books if they are typed in a language you cannot understand? Computers are the key for students who speak different languages to learn and grow successfully in both their academic and personal lives.
