Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are such amazing kids. I have the privilege of being their elementary school Spanish language teacher in a public school setting. We do have a wonderful mix of students from different cultures and different abilities and we are one here at our school. When I see a student that is in Special Education do so well in my Spanish class, I feel so fulfilled. I see first hand the benefits of having a foreign language at such a young age so accessible and free to our children. I hear feedback from parents saying that their child loves Spanish class. I'm just overwhelmed by the impact that my Spanish class has on all my students from PreK to 4th grade. Next year we will grow to 5th grade and I'm excited to send off my students into their next chapter with a good foundation in a foreign language. I also appreciate their desire to learn about Hispanic Heritage and the immigrant population that is many times affected by social injustices. They are appreciating and celebrating all cultures as well as their own.

My Project

These materials are unlike any other that my students have ever seen before. I want to reduce the amount of paper we use in our school and these materials will be helpful and used by our entire school student body. They will be able to see that you can learn through playing games and playing with others. They will able be able to read more about the contributions that Hispanics have made.

The Spanish games will allow for students of different abilities to work, play and learn together.

The software will allow our students to practice their Spanish without the need for a poor internet connection and reduce the amount of copy paper that is used in the school. The books will be tools that the students can use when learning about Hispanic Heritage without leaving the classroom and the need for a website with questionable images on the side.
