I am so excited about the new students I will be teaching in September. Our school is a dual-language school with an emphasis on oral language, so I'm pretty excited about the opportunities for discussion. Kids at this school spend a part of their day learning in Mandarin, and they bring such a unique perspective to our work in English Language Arts.
The kids I teach have a wide variety of interests and abilities, and participate in activities after school that include theater, dance, robotics, and speech.
I love the passion and enthusiasm that my students bring to all sorts of educational experiences!
My Project
In a few weeks, my students will be returning from summer vacation. Many of them had not had an opportunity to read the latest books; some of them will have lost a reading level or two in these intervening months.
My goal for September is to get my middle-school readers excited about books again!
You can help by donating to my project. All the books in this project have an emphasis on diversity, inclusiveness, and equity.
I've also included a number of graphic novels. I want to make sure my students who are newly arriving from other countries and who are not yet confident reading in English feel welcomed and included in my book selections.
