Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school in Houston, Texas where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My students come to school excited and ready to learn they work hard at learning the materials taught even though they have struggles they give it all they got.

Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.

My Project

The circuit will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom word wall is a place that my students really enjoy-an learn new words on the wall around the room I try to keep new words on the wall daily. The students complete the word wall and are eager to use the new words in sentences in their writing journals. The picture on the word cards helps them to learn the words quicker and they are able to pronounce and say the words by sight! Every student who utilizes the word wall is thankful for the opportunities to be able to say the words by sight. Some of the students who have mastered basic sight words are able to read emergent books. I have watched their eyes glisten with excitement to be able to read one-line books. the past few weeks of school my Students will be able to read books, with two to three-line sentences.

With the circuit, my students will be able to learn more words from the word wall that will allow them to learn words at and above their own grade level.

They will also be able to learn more variety of words quicker and easier and request words that interest them. The best way to increase vocabulary is to expose them to a classroom enriched with words all around them. This project will not only help enrich their experiences with the printed words all around them.
