This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When you pick up a new book, do you think, "Wow! I'd love to read about someone who's interesting and engaging?" Well, First Graders do that also!

My students love to learn about new ideas and people.

They just need the opportunity to explore new characters. That is why I am asking you to help by giving them the tools to succeed. Our school serves a diverse population of high-poverty students. Many of my students come from families that do not have the resources to allow their children to have new authors and characters in their homes. My goal is to 'hook' the children with these stories so during Writer's Workshop they can have ideas to write similar stories.

My Project

I am requesting a 'cast of characters' to join my classroom. I've picked a wide variety of books and authors that I have found to mesmerize even the most stubborn reader, including books by David Shannon, Mo Willems, Robert Munsch and Melanie Watt. These engaging characters will help us perform character studies. I've chosen most of the books with at least two titles by each author so we can do comparisons between books and characters.
