My Students

"Reading Takes You Places!" is written on a poster in my classroom. Occasionally, a student will suddenly announce, "Hey, that poster is true! Reading does take us places- I just went to the rain forest in this book!" I love children's books, and I really love to see my students engaged in reading

My students live in a low income area recently damaged by the March 25 tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.

Our school was partially damaged, so we are finishing the school year in a nearby church. Our school is a Title One school and has 70% free and reduced lunches. Our students love to read and love to learn. Even though we have been through the storm, we are resilient. We are Moore Strong!

My Project

This project includes 7 sets of leveled readers for reading groups. They include title such as: National Geographic: Robots, Ruby Bridges Goes to School: My True Story, and Navajo Code Talkers. This project also includes a class set of another reader, The Trail of Tears. There are also several other biographies and books on the rock cycle, similes, metaphors, and idioms.

Third grade studies Oklahoma history and I am excited about books for my classroom about the Trail of Tears and the Navajo Code Talkers.

The students are always very interested in learning about Oklahoma and I know that they will enjoy getting to study these topics more in depth. My students will also enjoy the other leveled readers during group reading time while they learn about rocks, presidents, and planets. I will also be sharing these books with other third grade classes.
