My Project

My students come from a low-income/high-poverty area. Daily my students are faced with several challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. Our school is a safe place for them to learn and thrive. We have fallen in love with PBIS this past school year, but are in need of materials to ensure continued success. Daily I watch my students persevere despite their many life challenges. Coming to school is a safe haven for many. Our scholars have navigated the challenges of this year like rockstars! Despite all of the challenges due to COVID-19, they have worked exceptionally hard this year. Many scholars have met or exceeded grade-level goals!

To celebrate those who are making and exceeding their personal academic growth goals, my school will hold an 'RIT Raffle' at the culmination of our spring testing.

Our testing is done through NWEA, and the NWEA MAP Growth "uses the RIT (Rasch Unit) scale to help [students and teachers] measure and compare academic achievement and growth." If a student shows growth, they will earn a ticket into the 'RIT Raffle.' This will allow them to win a variety of prizes such as footballs, basketballs, bubbles, slime, and other goodies, and even bigger prizes like tablets. When their ticket is drawn, they will come and choose a prize for their hard work. With this project, we will be able to provide the 'big ticket' prizes of an Amazon Fire 7 tablet, one for each grade level band (Kindergarten through 2nd, 3rd through 5th, and 6th through 8th). This will motivate them to work even harder to achieve academic growth, and as a bonus, the tablets can be used to access tons of academic content from home, such as ebooks, math practice programs used at school, and more.
