My Students

Books are to literacy as nutrients to our body. High quality books are greatly needed in my classroom.

My students are first graders at a low-income school in the northwest.

As a Title 1 school, we have more than 75% of students below the poverty line. They don't have books at home to read. Many have limited life experience such as traveling, visiting museums, libraries, and so on. Their learning totally relies on classroom instructions. High quality books, such as award-winning books, are a necessary tool for the teacher to use in modeling, as well as for the students to practice with.

My Project

These award-winning books will definitely change my students' lives. They will open my students eyes, bring them to a world beyond their classroom and homes. My students will be submerged in high quality books. I will use these books to teach reading, writing, social science, and so on. They are good literacy examples, perfect for read aloud, or writing prompts, as well as introductory books for social science topics. My students can also read them independently for joy or to learn.

To build a quality classroom library is a huge task.

It took me two years to have a few tubs of books. Your donation will help me be closer to my goal, as well as help my students to have a richer learning environment. If you believe good books are important for kids, please help us.
