My Students

My AP English students have been working hard all year. They deserve a treat. That's why I've saved one of the best books for last!

I can't wait to teach *The Awakening.* It's such a great book for so many reasons.

It does a great job teaching students characterization, theme, and symbolism. Even more important, students get sucked into the narrative and can identify with Edna Pontellier.

My Project

Unfortunately, our school no longer has copies of The Awakening. Our old ones were retired after 10 years of dutiful use in the classroom. I am hopeful that you can help replenish our collection so that students can continue enjoying this transformative book.

This project is important because The Awakening does an excellent job connecting urban students to canonical literature.

Even though Edna is very different and very privileged, she sparks within my students an interest to consider their present lives and to ask whether there's more to imagine.
