Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach the AVID elective course, a four-year program that prepares students for a four-year college after high school. The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
Most, if not all, are from low-income households and will be first-generation college students.
Students in AVID must take advanced courses and develop college readiness skills such as staying organized and becoming effective note-takers. With your help, I will be able to provide students with some of the basic needs that are required for school, such as highlighters, binders, dividers, pencil pouches, and writing utensils, to ensure they are prepared and ready for the new school year.
