My students need a printer/copier, ink, and paper, so that they can have their own copies of great short stories and poems to read, annotate, and analyze!

My Students

My students represent the nations of the Caribbean, Africa, and the Middle East, but they live in the heart of Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Some are second or third generation immigrants, while others are brand new to the country and just learning English. All of them are bright and eager to learn.

My school is devoted to providing our students with the resources they deserve, but we are a struggling Title I school.

As a result, my students often miss out on the kinds of poems and short stories they need, because we don't have a copier, printer, ink, and paper. Brilliant short stories by Langston Hughes and poems by Sylvia Plath remain unattainable because I can't print copies for students to read and annotate for class discussions. Formative assessments are a challenge to complete in a class period because students have to copy the questions in addition to writing their responses.

For this reason, I am endeavoring to purchase a small printer/copier, ink, and paper, for the classroom. These items will be used exclusively to print readings and activities for the students, so that they can read and analyze the great works we lack money to buy in bound volumes.

My Project

With your help, my students will have all the materials they need to read and annotate great works. They will also be able to print their typed essays, something my students need a lot of practice with before I send them off to high school.

This project will provide my students with the fundamental resources necessary for any classroom.

Black and white copies of texts to circulate, printed essays, and formative assessments (such as brief quizzes with short response questions) are basic necessities in any classroom. By supporting my project, you ensure that the students of my school have access to the resources so commonly available at most public schools.
