Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In AVID, students are required from the beginning of Freshman year to be prepared for the rigors of college and their future careers. AVID students study more than the average student, complete more research, and are required to engage in volunteer work all four years of high school. My AVID Freshmen are already looking at prospective universities, practicing for their SATs, and crafting portfolios to help them achieve their goals. My students work so hard, but also need time to relax and build connections with one another.

Board games offer more than just entertainment; they are powerful tools for promoting critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Uno cards are popular with students, and the board games will allow them to challenge each other in a safe and accepting environment. Games like Battle Ship and Life will test their critical thinking skills, and the party games will allow opportunities for collaborating in groups. The need for fun and a creative outlet doesn't end in elementary school.

That's why I'm excited to share that we're seeking donations of games to incorporate into our classroom. The goal is that a couple Fridays every month will be dedicated to giving students time to reconnect with their peers and to have fun--something that college bound students often sacrifice in the name of their GPA and other responsibilities.
