My Project

In my Spanish classes, we want to study traditional Indigenous and folk medicine of communities in the Latinx diaspora - this includes Mexico, Central and South America, and the United States. For hundreds of years, these ways of healing have been passed on through oral traditions. As winter approaches in Philly, we will study these healing pathways and make use of herbs from our urban farm at Saul High School to create teas, wreaths, dried swag, and sachets.

As language learners, my students will have the chance to learn traditional uses of herbs like oregano and rosemary from members of the Latinx community and then learn how to make teas, sachets, and other calming elements by hand!

The dehydrator will be used for citrus fruits and herbs. The other things on my wish list for our mental health project will aid students in making different elements from the dried herbs and citrus. We will make teas, sachets, swag and more for ourselves, each other, and to share with the wider Saul community.
