My Students

As a Special Education Social Studies teacher, my students exemplify diversity.

From Kindergarten to 5th grade, these students have many different learning styles stemming from a variety of diagnosis including ADHD, Autism, learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, Downs Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, Rhett Dyndrome, Phylenan McDermott Syndrome, and more.

They have equally diverse nationalities, races, and religions.

Most importantly, they have a variety of interests, from Barbie Dolls to Legos, from Minecraft to Youtube, from visual arts to dance, from toy cars to Nascar.

They all share an excitement for learning about Social Studies as I thrive to bring History and Culture alive and make it interesting to them all.

My Project

My project is for the students to be "news reporters". They will research and explore, then create class newspapers, books, and newscasts.

With the camera and other materials, my students will take pictures, tell a story, and find their voice.

They will be authors, and with the binder machine, gather research essays, and news reports into books. They will be explorers from the classroom and use "Times for Kids" to learn more about the world we live in. They will be news reporters, using the speaker and dry erase boards to share the news. All materials will enable them to learn and grow.

This project will turn students into true news reporters, authors, storytellers and communicators.
