My Students

I teach one of four special day classes for children with autism at our elementary school. These classes run the entire span of the grade levels. My students are Kindergarten and First Grade, and all students are included to the best of their abilities in the general ed programs.

We have a robust academic inclusion program.

We are, however, always in need of opportunities for students to collaborate with the general ed students, especially opportunities to explore arts and sciences as a part of a team.

My Project

We plan to collaborate with the general ed teachers to produce an Autism/General Ed. Art Show. All of our students with Autism will be guided through creating a canvas, and we will be welcoming in the general ed students to create canvases side by side in our inclusive classroom. Students' work will be displayed in an exhibition during Open House, combining the work of both groups.

We believe that nothing fosters inclusiveness with our students than working side-by-side and collaboratively with their differently abled peers.

This art show will facilitate social skills and foster friendships that will help both populations grow and thrive.
