Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you were challenged and inspired in your classroom? My students are curious, eager learners who deserve all that I can offer to them.

My class is a micro-CTT class, which contains two teachers, a special education teacher and a general education teacher.

I have a mix of students that come from different backgrounds. My classroom contains neurotypical students and students with special needs; specifically Asperger's Syndrome. Our school is a public school that includes grades Pre-K through grade 5. My students are full of questions on how the world works and why things happen. The students with autism have a very difficult time understanding the social world around them. In helping them grasp and make sense of social issues and situations, certain materials would help in their progression towards self-awareness. Due to their inability to understand social situations, their comprehension of text is hindered.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting will help my students become better learners. They will see things visually and in a concrete way. My students have different learning styles and with these resources I am showing them that learning is fun. I am showing them that there are various ways for an individual to learn. We learn through books, games, and technology. I will be able to give them an image of what they look like learning. Students with autism generally have a difficult time demonstrating appropriate behaviors. Through the use of a flip video camera, I can show them appropriate behaviors through peer modeling. A laminator will help my students gain comprehension and understanding through the use of visuals. The games that I have requested are imperative to provide socialization through learning. The skill books that I have requested will help my students attain a better sense of understanding of the skills needed to aid them in state testing.

Through the generous donations that are given to my project, my students will have extra resources given to them that will help them become more independent.

They will achieve success and become more confident in who they are as individuals. I am looking forward to helping my students achieve the expectations that are placed on them.
