Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are autistic, deaf, intellectually disabled, speech impaired and/or other health impaired. Each one thrives on structure and routine. Their favorite time of day is "Sign-in & Calendar" when they use the ActivPanel, greet each other, perform calendar tasks, and "show off."

Our school is very supportive and inclusive.

My students enjoy participating in activities such as reading buddies, grade level inclusion​ , and peer-to-peer mentoring. Wherever we go in school, other students call out "hello" to my students and call them by name. They are an important part of our school community.

My Project

The ability to self-regulate is necessary for school, work, relationships and life. It is a skill most of us take for granted. Students with autism often require explicit instruction in emotional regulation to help them process emotions, feelings and over-stimulation. My student work to identify how they are feeling, what strategies, and how their emotions effect others using the Zones of Regulation.

Our sensory area is in need of replacement items.

This space provides tools to assist students with self-regulation. My hope is for them to carry the skills, strategies and tools they find helpful with them into adulthood.
