Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher. I work with children who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. My group of kids are unique and special in many different ways. Before I begin talking about my kids, I would like to introduce my school. The school neighborhood isn't exactly kid-friendly but we as educators try our best to keep our students as safe as can be. Luckily, we have an amazing support staff. Without our administrators, we wouldn't be the team that we are! My students are part of the autism program at our school.

Each child is characterized by difficulties in behavior, social interaction, communication and sensory sensitivities.

These challenges that they experience lead to levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. All six students are unique and their needs are reflected differently. It is my job as their teacher to understand their individual needs and to be able to make appropriate accommodations for each student to help them become successful.

My Project

Our class is in need of a easel during instructional time. As an educator I can use the easel to better help my students understand the skill that is being taught. At times when we are working in centers an easel will come in handy because I will be able to transport it around the classroom without moving the children. The Ipad cases are also in need in our classroom. These cases will help protect our Ipads that we use during our free time. At times my students are very rough with the Ipads and a case is needed.

Children with autism may look different but share similar qualities.

To help promote maximum achievement, I want to make sure I have all of the proper materials that are needed in my classroom.
