My Students

Children learn about the world through their senses. Children with autism spectrum disorders, however, often have unusual responses to the senses of hearing, sight, touch, smell and/or movement. These responses can interfere with learning and affect behavior.

My students are autistic and range in age from 5 to 10 years old.

They receive special instruction in small classrooms, along with related services throughout the school day, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech.

My students present with delays in strength, coordination, motor planning, etc. Many have difficulty attending for extended periods of time, and demonstrate sensory-seeking behaviors.

My Project

These simple items will help my students explore their therapy room environment while keeping it safe and fun.

Our therapy room is in need of some basic items, such as bean bag seating, a tunnel, a body ball, and a floor mat.

Throughout the entire school year and during the school day, my students benefit from using the therapy room where they engage in individual and small group motor activities. Safety is key when working with my students, and these items will provide them with comfortable seating and safe enjoyable play, in a child-friendly environment. Please support our students in this!
