Autism: Books to Help Us Learn New Skills!

My Project

My students are autistic and range in age from five to ten years old. They receive special instruction in small classrooms (6:1:1), along with related services throughout the school day, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech, and counseling. My students present with delays in strength, coordination, motor planning, etc. These delays can affect their performance with academic tasks (using classroom tools and materials), activities of daily living (dressing, feeding, hygiene), and participation in physical education and play activities.

I want to build a library of books that will help my students learn and practice their skills!!

This library will consist of sensory books (i.e., touch and feel books and books with music), sticker art and craft books that will improve fine motor and visual motor skills (including coloring and cutting), and books that will spark curiosity and teach new skills like letters, numbers, colors, animals, and even toileting!
