Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education teacher. I work with children who are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. My group of kids are unique and special in many different ways. Before I begin talking about my kids, I would like to introduce my school. The school neighborhood isn't exactly kid-friendly but we as educators try our best to keep our students as safe as can be. Luckily, we have an amazing support staff. Without our administrators, we wouldn't be the team that we are! My students are part of the autism program at our school.

Each child is characterized by difficulties in behavior, social interaction, communication and sensory sensitivities.

These challenges that they experience lead to levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. All six students are unique and their needs are reflected differently. It is my job as their teacher to understand their individual needs and to be able to make appropriate accommodations for each student to help them become successful.

My Project

My students and I use class Dojo everyday. The kids work for points which eventually leads them to a big bright treasure box on Friday if they earn 20 Dojo points Mon-Fri. Please help us stock up on our rewards that are in the treasure box.

Autism children thrive for positive reinforcements.

Incorporating a treasure box reward once a week helps my kids work to the best of their ability. I try to keep toys that the kids are interested in and love to switch it up on a monthly basis. This keeps things exciting for them and they tend to work even harder :)
